Magnesia Carbon Bricks

Yutong is a leading manufacturer of magnesia carbon bricks in China. Our high volume output, combined with stringent manufacturing methods, has made us a strategic supplier to leading steel companies in Asia and Europe.

Magnesia carbon brick is a no-burn alkaline refractory material. It enhances corrosion resistance and slag resistance. The product range is based on magnesia composite materials. These bricks show excellent resistance to thermal shock and corrosion at high temperatures and are widely used in the steel industry. Its high melting point and resistance to hydration make it an ideal refractory material. Steelmaking requires extreme chemical, thermal and mechanical conditions that require materials with high performance that can withstand the action of steel and slag. Both magnesia carbon and magnesia alumina carbon are capable of providing such properties.

In addition to manufacturing standard brick sizes (MC 8/10/12/14/18), we are able to produce specialized shapes to suit all reformer and electric arc furnace designs.

Description of magnesia carbon brick

Magnesia carbon brick is a resin-bound brick made of refired or electrofused magnesia sand and graphite. If required, antioxidants are added. As a composite refractory, magnesia carbon brick makes effective use of the strong slag corrosion of magnesia and the high thermal conductivity and low expansion of carbon, compensating for the biggest disadvantage of magnesia's poor resistance to flaking. Our control of the binder means that these products are classified as environmentally friendly in terms of steel production. This material has good heat resistance, corrosion resistance and resistance to spalling.

Magnesia carbon brick properties

Good resistance to high temperatures

Good resistance to slag erosion

Good resistance to thermal shock

Low high-temperature creep

Good thermal stability

Good thermal conductivity

Magnesia carbon brick manufacturing process

Conventional magnesia carbon bricks are made by a cold mixing process with a compound tar binding agent to obtain the necessary strength after hardening. This results in an isotropic glassy carbon. This carbon does not exhibit the thermoplasticity that would allow proper stress relief during lining firing or operation. They are made from bitumen binders and have high-temperature plasticity due to the anisotropic graphitized coke structure formed during the bitumen carbonation process.

Magnesia carbon brick properties

Magnesia carbon brick has good heat resistance, corrosion resistance, and flaking resistance.

Magnesia carbon brick uses

These magnesia carbon bricks are widely used in converters, electric arc furnaces, steel ladles, refining furnaces, alkaline oxygen furnaces, ladle slag lines, DC electric arc furnace linings, etc.

Magnesia carbon brick composition

Magnesia carbon brick is a kind of high-quality refractory material. Its main components are magnesium oxide and carbon, of which the magnesium oxide content is 60~90% and the carbon content is 10~40%. This type of material is made of high-purity magnesium oxide particles, carbon material, tar, asphalt, or resin, baked at high temperatures. These magnesia refractory bricks have the properties of slag resistance, thermal shock resistance, thermal conductivity, etc.
